"It was like my life was tailor-made for this moment." ![]() "All those things led me down this path," Gutt told Talk Is Jerichoin March of his many let-downs before getting the STP job. In March, the band released its first new studio album in eight years, Stone Temple Pilots. Last November, Gutt was formally introduced as STP's new lead singer. Weiland wrote in his autobiography that the song was about his marriage to and divorce from his first wife, Janina Castaneda. "Sour Girl" was a rock radio hit for STP in 1999. ![]() ".I have a particular thing with 'Sour Girl,'" he said, "just because I feel it's written… it's a personal message, so I don't know… To me, that one's a little off limits. Gutt was asked a recent radio interview whether anything from the band's catalog was "off limits." He replied that his new bandmates have been encouraging at every term, but there's one song that he doesn't think he has any business singing. It's a position even STP bassist Robert DeLeo said he wouldn't want to be in due to the line Gutt must tow each and every night between respecting the band's legacy with Weiland and moving forward as its new frontman. No one who's really thinking critically would diminish the mammoth task Stone Temple Pilots' frontman Jeff Gutt took on by succeeding Scott Weiland in the band.
